Apply to Psi Chi

The Psi Chi Chapter @ OU invites any member of the Oakland University community to participate in our activities. This community includes all students majoring in Psychology at Oakland University and any individual having an interest in psychology and the study of psychology, including Oakland University students not majoring in psychology, faculty, administrators, staff, and any member of the surrounding communities. In short, Psi Chi activities are open to all.

The faculty members in the Department of Psychology will periodically nomiate students for official membership in Psi Chi. These nominations processes generally occur twice a year with new members being formally inducted into the chapter in ceremony held in April of each year. If you have questions pertaining to any aspect of the application process, please contact the current Psi Chi President.

Eligibility for undergraduate students include:

  1. Registration for major or minor standing in psychology (or for a program psychological in nature)
  2. Completion of 46 credits of college courses
  3. Completion of 16 credits of psychology courses
  4. Ranked in the top 35% of one's class (typically a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.31, but will vary by class year)
  5. A minimum psychology GPA of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) in all psychology courses 

Eligibility for graduate students include:

  1. Registration for major or minor standing in psychology (or for a program psychological in nature)
  2. A minimum overall cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale in all graduate courses

Eligibility for faculty advisors includes:

  1. Full-time faculty at their institution
  2. Holds a doctoral degree in psychology or psychology-related field

Students must fill out Membership Application form and Registration Card. Both of these documents can be found in Pryale Hall
